Seoul, March 27, 2026 — On the 150th anniversary of the Treaty of Ganghwa, the international conference “The Great Game and Korea” offered a critical reframing of Korea’s 19th-century opening.

Hosted by the Eurasian Silk Road Institute, the conference situated Korea within the broader geopolitical dynamics of the Great Game, where imperial competition reshaped Eurasia.

As a student of political science and international relations, I found the conference particularly illuminating. It underscored how the international order surrounding Korea 150 years ago continues to echo in the present—still shaped by the strategic interplay of Russia, China, the United States, and Japan.

This historical continuity offers a powerful framework for understanding Korea’s position within today’s evolving global order.

2026년 3월 27일 서울 — 강화도 조약 체결 150주년을 맞아 열린 국제학술회의 **“그레이트 게임 속의 강화도 조약과 한국”**은 조선의 개국을 세계사적 시각에서 새롭게 조명했다.

유라시아실크로드연구소 주최로 열린 이번 학술회의는 19세기 제국 간 경쟁 구도 속에서 조선을 재위치시키며, 기존의 수동적 서술을 넘어 보다 입체적인 해석을 제시했다.
