Jindo dogs display cat-like agility. My dogs have no trouble jumping over 6-foot-high fences. When it's too high to jump, they can climb walls. With my dogs on the lookout as in this photo, I feel very safe from any wild animals that may enter my property.

In 1995, I visited Jindo Island in South Korea to research the dog's homeland. I saw hundreds of dogs and photographed some. I interviewed a number of jindo owners and breeders. I also interviewed several Korean experts on the breed.

The Grand Jindo Bridge links the Jindo Island to the Korean peninsula. The construction of this monumental bridge was completed on October18, 1984. Some Jindo Islanders blame this bridge for a negative outcome on the Jindo Dog breed. This bridge makes smuggling good dogs out of the island easier. This bridge also provides an easy crossing of dogs on the mainland to enter Jindo Island. A pair of Jindo dog statues are located at each end of the bridge.
