The following is a Korean dog that nearly became extinct. It's called "Sap-Sar-Gae or Sapsaree." General Kim Yoo-Shin of the Shilla Kingdom was known to value this dog and took Sapsalyee to battle fields. General Kim defeated the Kokuryo Kingdom and Baekjae Kingdom in 660 A.D..

This is a Sapsaree. It is slightly smaller in size to Jindo dog, but much tougher dog.

Here is a photo of a "Poong-San Gae" from North Korea. This dog is known to exist only in the mountainous Poong-San region in northern North Korea. Most Koreans have never even seen this dog. I was able to see this dog in North Korea for the first time in 1995.

I saw this Poong-San Dog at a Pyongyang Zoo in North Korea.

Poong-San Gae is capable of hunting wild boar alone. It is the largest and toughest Korean dog known. I've also heard from sources in North Korea that some Russian hunters use three Poong-San dogs to hunt Siberian Tigers. It's a fierce hunter and fighter. Although some Poon-San Gae have been reported to have been smuggled out of North Korea, there is no official confirmation that Poong-San Dog has been exported outside North Korea.
