Following is a painting by the most famous painter of the 18th century KimHong-Do, titled "Fighting Dog Portrait". This breed is no longer found on the Korean peninsula.

This is one of the most famous dog paintings from the 18th Century by Kim Hong Do. It's titled "Fighting Dog Portrait" There is an interpretation that this painting is from China as the architecture (carpentry work done on the house) is considered not as authentic Korean.

The following is a Korean dog that nearly became extinct. It's called "Sapsaree." General Kim Yoo-Shin of the Shilla Kingdom was known to have valued this breed and took Sapsaree to battle fields. General Kim defeated the Goguryeo and Baekje Kingdoms in 660 A.D. to unify Korea. Here's a recent story I did on Sapsaree dogs bounce back from near extinction.

This is a Sapsaree. It is slightly taller in size to Jindo dog. Sapsarees are generally gentler with people and extremely patient with harsh weather (hot and/or cold).

Here is a photo of a "Poongsan-Gae" from North Korea. This dog is known to exist only in the mountainous Poongsan region in northern North Korea. Most Koreans have never even seen this dog. I was able to see this dog in North Korea for the first time during my visit to D.P.R.K. (Democratic People's Republic of Korea, aka North Korea) in 1995.

I saw this Poongsan-gae at Pyongyang Zoo in North Korea.

Poongsan-gae is said to be capable of hunting wild boar alone. It is the largest and toughest Korean dog known. I've also heard from sources in North Korea that some Russian hunters use three Poongsan dogs to hunt down Siberian Tigers. It's a fierce hunter and fighter. I've watched a North Korean video showing a smaller Poongsan winning over a larger German Shepherd. Although some Poongsons have been reported to have been smuggled out of North Korea, my sources tell me that most of the "so-called" Poongsan that came through North-East China are indeed have their origin in local Chinese dogs.
